Minimap

The Minimap in Questies is a visual representation of World, providing Players with an intuitive way to navigate and manage their surroundings. It displays Points, Areas, and Characters, and allows for easy interaction and movement.

Features of the Minimap

Drag and Drop: Points and Characters can be dragged around the map to change their position within the game world.

Interactive Elements: Clicking on Points or Characters opens additional information about them, such as details or options related to gameplay.

Right-Click Options:

To Here: Allows you to select multiple characters and/or locations to move them instantly to the selected spot, enabling quick adjustments to the World state.

From Here: Allows you to select points, characters and groups of characters to prefill the “To Here”.

Travel Here: Draws the path your character will take on the map and prefills the chat with the message required to reach that destination.

Minimap Controls

+ Button (Bottom Left): Centers the minimap view on the Player’s current position, making it easy to stay oriented.

Cog Button (Next to + Button): Opens the Minimap Settings, where Players can adjust visual settings such as map overlays, grid visibility, or label preferences.

Square Icon (Bottom Right): Expands the minimap to full screen, providing a larger view of the World.

- and + Buttons (Z-Level Controls): Adjust the minimap to display different Z-Levels. Use these controls to view Points, Areas, and Characters located on other vertical layers, such as underground caves or upper floors of buildings.

Limitations of the Minimap

While the minimap is a powerful tool for navigating the World, it does have some limitations due to the nature of tabletop-style storytelling:

Manual Movement: Player movement can’t always be tracked perfectly to the narrative because of its inherently flexible and descriptive nature. For example, exact paths taken during exploration or small shifts in positioning may not automatically match the story.

Player Responsibility: Players are encouraged to approach movement with the same mindset as a tabletop RPG, where they manually decide their character’s positioning during exploration.

Ease of Use: The drag-and-drop feature makes manual adjustments straightforward, allowing Players to align their character’s position with the story as needed.

These limitations are steadily improving as the system evolves.
